>Dan -- the problem could be that you are not using one of the updateable recordset types in ADO. Try a client-side, static sets and see if that works (see some ADO documentation for info on the exact constant references in VBA).

Thanks for your repsponse.
The updateable recordset seemed to be the clue. But now the stored procs in the dbc are not calculating the primary key value. Unless you have any more clues, I may just pass an ado recordset to a vfp com object from excel, and let the speed demon run the code. I think I still have some sample code from a devcon years ago.
