Codebook framework is considered to be the grandfather of Visual FoxPro frameworks. It was created by Flash Creative Management and introduced in 1995, by Yair Allen Griver (YAG) and his development team. Codebook is supported by (YAG) and is still free.

There are basically two types of frameworks used – object based and from based. Codebook is an example of object based, and Visual Max Frame Professional is form based. I use both types of frameworks, and there are good and not so good points to each. Having been to the Flash Road Show, and VMP training, it makes it easier for me to understand how and when to use each of these tools.

There are published books, web sites (including Flash Creative Management) and products which can be purchased which are Codebook based. You will find user forums on the internet which are very helpful.

To begin an understanding of Codebook requires at least an introduction to OOP. With that said, you continue by applying the concepts of OOP to container classes that can be reused and dropped on a form. It takes a bit of planing to create such objects but soon becomes fun.
