We wanted to display text above the combo box that would basically show what letters that the user had typed. But we needed to know where that combo box was on the page. We were using the offsettop and offsetleft properties but that only shows the offset from the < td > in a table. We ended up going back and back in the object hierarchy until we reached the body to get the absolute position.

Is there an easier way?
