Hi Larry
I guess Drew's generator is better because it allows 1.35 billion combinations in 5 characters instead of the Fox 2.x style 10 billion in a 10 char field? If it only generates 1.35 billion, then I'm even more inclined to go with integer, so I don't pay the performance penalty of generating 1.35 billion character strings (or however many I need) and I can get a max of 2 billion keys.
I never really looked at the part of x3genpk that creates the string. I only modified it to allow it to be called for non pk numerics like invoice numbers.
