Exactly the same way you direct output from any printer driver to a file; nothing unique about it at all. No need for DDE, since you aren't trying to control the fax destination; all you're doing is writing out a file formatted in faxable format, in the same way you might create a file ready to print on an HP LaserJet or PostScript printer. There's no magic to this at all.
