Hi George,

I found Promatrix to be too constraining for my style and I also found it slow.

One thing I didn't really like about it was their extensive use of global variables.

I think this is like a marriage. If you're not completely satisfied with your choice, don't go into it.

Codebook's documentation is not too great if you're just starting out. Being a free framework, I don't think anyone can assure that someone is heavily involved in making the documentation as easy to follow as possible.

MereMortals was what I chose in the end, and if it's within your possibilities I recommend that you take their class. It wasn't as hands-on as I would've wanted, but then the amount of ground covered by the class would require probably a whole month to be more hands-on.

Mere mortals is quite flexible, but that flexibility comes at a price (steeper learning curve). If unlike me, you're a seasoned vfp developer, that won't be too hard to leave behind.

The one thing that sold me on MM after trying Promatrix for about a month was that I wasn't forced to use THEIR data dictionary and THEIR application generator in order to get things done and that there are hooks all over the place for me to stick my own code.

I think Promatrix is more of a Case tool than a framework. If this is something you like, however, check out Codepainter (http://www.codepainter.com). I saw a demo of their product and it was very interesting.

WHen I was courting them frameworks I heard that maxframe wasn't meant but for 1 or 2 tier apps, in case this is important for you.

Hope this helps!

Alex
