I had the same problem David. I arrived to work & found that it took over a minute to open a project, where the day before it took a few seconds. The IT bods had put antivirus checking on each machine. After turning it off, things were back to normal.

It's also worth checking if the server itself does any virus checking, that can lead to slowdown as well.
