Trevor Garland will be talking about using Visual FoxPro to
develop a Help Desk system. He and his group, the Computerized
Office Solutions Group at McGill University, will
demonstrate the system (as it will exist on that day) which
is currently under development an also in production.
The Help Desk system tracks calls to McGill Information
Systems Resources (ISR) from university staff seeking
assistance in using mainframe database systems and
administrative information software provided by ISR, and for
support in PC and local area network problems. This system
tracks calls, (will) forward the problem to the appropriate
developer via E-Mail through a MAPI interface), automatically
E-Mail reminders for problems that have not been closed,
provide statistics on calls processed, and serve as a tool
for converting problem call information into a Frequently-
Asked-Question file that will be accessible through the
World Wide Web.
The members of the Office Solutions Group will also discuss
the VFP learning curve and resources available to help scale
that mountain.
The Meeting begins at 6:30 P.M. in the Microsoft Offices
on the 18th floor of the IBM Building, 1250 boul. René-Lévesque.
