Because it is extremely annoying, happens constantly, and people like you are obviously ignorant of the extent the problem here. Smaller threads it's not so bad. But I have situations where I posted a short comment early on in a thread, the thread grows for days and days and every time I log on & I have 20-30 messages in my replies list that are so far removed from my original comment that I have no clue what the person is saying... unless of course I'm following the thread closely in which case I dont need cc'd to on every reply because I'm going to read it anyway.

Now I'm not even that active up here, so I cant even imagine how much SPAM (yes, it my book it is SPAM) members like Erik and Nigel get. I do know that what I get hit with is so much, that when the names of obvious/blatant offenders (you all know who you are... you reply to ever single person on a thread everytime you reply) begin to stick in my mind, I often dont bother participating in future threads those people get involved with becuase I dont have the time nor the patience to sort thru all the bogus replies. So that hurts the person who started a thread if other participants are driving away valid commentary, it hurts the offenders because I for one (and I'm betting I'm not alone) purposedly avoid helping a few people up here because of the amount of spam they create, and that hurts the forum in general. And let's not forget the scenario where people who have the most to offer up here probably have a limited amount of time to offer help to those looking for it... so that half hour spent cleaning out span replies isnt spent helping people.

So my suggestion is why dont you grow up and all the other offenders as well. As technical professionals is it too much to ask for a little professional courtesy? As programmers, is it too much to expect a very minimal amount of common sense? I dont think so. In light of that fact that this particluar problem as annoyed me for well over a year, it seems justified that we put a mechanism in place to make people stop and think when they hit that checkbox to forward replies to everyone.
