Drat! I hit send before I finished.
>I agree with you, George, about the email. It should be a PUTM choice.
Especially in view of the fact that if someone really wants my email address for some reason, they can private me (which I believe is now a BUTM choice) or (and this is a sneaky way, download one of my files. It's included there so if there are support issues, the user can contact me about it.
The reason I even mentioned this is that, in the past, I'd get emails from people here about a particular thread or just a question. It got to the point where I had a standardized response I'd give. Basically, that the communication (especially if it was related to a current thread) would better be served as a post. That way, it becomes part of the record. I have gotten several emails saying, "did you see (thread # or subject)?" and wanting feedback on it. Chances are pretty good that if I was around, I saw it, and if I didn't respond, I either had nothing to add or didn't know the answer.
Does this annoy me? Yep, but not just from a selfish POV. Sure there's the time it takes to respond when I could be doing something else, but that's not the only reason. Sending me an email rather than posting a question might mean that the questionner doesn't get a response as quickly as they might otherwise. I'm not always around, and I check my email only once a day.
