I tried your suggestion and discovered that "SCATTER FIELDS mSomeMemo MEMO TO laArray" concatenates each line of the memo field into a single row of laArray. All of the carriage returns are retained. Although, VFP's GATHER documentation is not so specific, it appears that "GATHER FIELDS mSomeMemo FROM laArray" is expecting a single row.
