I believe it returns the same major and minor version numbers. The only thing that would change is the build number for SE and OS() doesn't report this.

If you want more detailed version information, you can use the GetVersionEx WinAPI function. There is a write up in the API section here. I wonder who wrote up that great example. ;-)
