Rick,
>Yes. So far there's been no need to upgrade, since the older version works fine with newer versions (which many of my clients have) using dial-up connections. However, it's clearly time to upgrade anyway < g >.
A word of caution to everyone with PCAnywhere with the Network connect option. Be sure to go into host mode and remove the default Network icon or add security to it, even if you have the Host set up just for dial-in access.
The default Network Host TCP/IP entry IS accessible over the net when that computer is connected to the internet, and will show up in a scan of available computers when someone else with a similar IP address (probably from the same ISP) searches for available PCAnywhere computers.
This bit me once, until a very helpful network administrator from some other company left a Word document on the host desktop explaining how he (and probably several others) got in. And now we know why our server's name mysteriously changed about a month before that. Since this was a retail store, we had assumed that a customer had done it while the salesperson was helping someone else. I'm afraid the sales clerk got a good tongue-lashing on that one from the store manager, probably due to my ignorance.
In summary, the default PCA installation can leave you vulnerable. :-)
