With Office 2000, Microsoft made a conscious effort to avoid some of the backward-compatibility issues that had been problematic with earlier releases. I think it's fair to assume that they'll make the same effort with Office 10, but there's no way to know for sure until it ships. BTW I am not a beta tester for Office 10, and I'm sure those who are will be under an NDA here.
