Glad to hear you got around your problem (doesn't sound like it was actually "solved").

My reswponse was *NOT* concerned with the field itself, but rather with its INDEX and when/how it was created.

From what you have described as the "solution", I'm still inclined to feel that it was a 'how/when the index was built for those records' problem *IF* (I repeat: *IF*) the index in question was a character date index.
