There can be situations where the a trigger has to force the update of a table to be one row at a time. It depends on the calculations that are being done to maintain the denormalized or calculated data.

My reply to you didn't say that it couldn't be done. I said that you might have to use a CURSOR to interatively manipulate all the rows in the INSERTED or DELETED tables.
