I know this doesn't answer your question, but for those stuggling with the report writer, there is a much better to deal with reports.

Take a look at the latest issue of FoxTalk. There is an article called 'Build Your Own Web Reporter'. I adopted this stradegy a long time ago and never been happier. Since I started doing it this way I haven't used the report writer in over a year.
