My network support folks are looking to buy some software that will help them keep track of where PC's are located, with an eye toward the month that 300 PC leases are all up at the same time and the boxes have to be located and replaced. Total users, about 600. Running Novell Netware 4x (?)

Specifically, they want software that can be scheduled to pop up a window every so often when the user logs into our server, asks the user what their name is and which building/room they're in, and captures the network card Id number.

They mentioned LanUtil32 (vector-networks.com) which appears to be a VB deal (data in Access, SQL-Server or Oracle) and also something from ZenWorks (Novell). They haven't looked at prices, but they look expensive to me. I didn't see anything about source code availablility, and each of these came with a lot of features we have somewhere else or don't need, which is why the high price.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've already written them most of an app to keep track of users, PC names, etc. but all of the data will be entered by us, not anything automatic.

How hard would it be to write the part that pops up for the user upon login, and also captures the network card number?
