Probably from a lazy programmer or an accounting-oriented consultant who's not much of a programmer.

Import of data to QuickBooks is not a problem -- it's just a little complex. They have their own format, of course, and you just have to write a routine to create some tab-delimited files in their format. I've done GL entries, but the info is available also for PR, AP, and AR.
