FWIW, they are not identical, especially for high-end SCSI using Ultra-2 or Ultra-160. Different chipset, and no support for bus clock speeds above 40MHz - it won't work with an LVD drive, and a U2 single-ended drive would be forced to operate at the slower Ultra data rate. It can be used with U2 single-ended devices, but they'll fall back to the commonly-supported compatible data rate; if you hook a U2 single-ended drive to an 8 bit SCSI-2 conroller, it will work, but only at the best rate both the HA and the device can negotiate.
