We had the same problem. We switched from Mcaffee to Norton and it helped most of the computers. On the others, we had them stop the virus checker completly.

There is a danger obviously for Emails and web access if the virus checker is not on, but it was the only solution we found.

For use at least, Norton seemed to cause less problems. I don't know why.
