Areté, not arreté, is French (they said) and it means any of the following: summit (as in peak); pursuit of excellence; and there are a couple more I forgot. There is a plaque in my boss' office which has the definition of the word but haven't bothered to read it.
I did check out it meaning when I applied for the job, and got the second definition above.
