Is the other application mapping, possibly map root, the same drive letter as the one you are trying to path on? Does the other app have a config? Is it setting a foxprocfg environment variable?
My suggestion would be to sit down in front of the client's machine and when the error comes up, pop out to DOS and check mappings.
