It sounds like you're running into the HTML Help configuration on your system. .CHM-based Help uses the IE HTML Help Engine, and some of the Help behavior is controlled by IE configuration details; I get the behavior you note with my laptop with IE 5.01 installed, but the behavior you want to see under 2K and ME at least with the IE 5.5 browser installed. There's a difference in the Help Engine version reported; I have HTML Help Control v 4.74.8875 behaving as you'd like (IE 5.5) and v 4.74.8793 with the behavior of flashing the Help Window icon in the taskbar if I've minimized or covered help with another application under 5.01. If you're having this problem, updating your IE browser to 5.5 may help, or it could be a setting in the IE Browser preferences somewhere (maybe the Advanced page under Internet Options, but that's a guess.) I know that the Help Control distributed with ME is different than the one that shipped with Win98; I'm running 5.5 on both development boxes here, but my laptop has 5.01 and the older Help Control. You can check the Help Control version through Help/About HTML Help
