Bingo! A little shuffling, and I've got it, a nice neat Excel sheet. Here is the sequence:

1) Access imports VFP data into Access DB, preserving memo length.
2) Access exports to Excel, again preserving memo length, and even placing all memo EOLs in the same Excel cell (so the text will show up properly formatted in that "tooltip" popup feature that Excel uses).

By golly, that's the first useful thing I've ever found for MS Access <s>
