If it's originating from a vcx you could SaveAsClass.
If you mean to preserve formatting while changing recordsource then :
-First set recordsource to empty string (.Recordsource = '')
-Prepare its recordsource
-Reassign recordsource (.Recordsource = 'myCursor')
