The other programmer is entirely wrong. There are circumstances where the entire content of a file will have to be copied from the file server to the local workstation, for example:

USE MyFile
COPY TO YourFile

However, the USE statement does not cause the entire content of the file to be copied; unless some operation calls for the content of the file to be copied locally, it won't be. The "other programmer" needs to rent a clue if this is the exact context of his statement, that VFP's USE statement forces all data to be copied locally.
