I think you are mixing up SDI and MDI. Office 2000 is SDI, one document/instance. That's why you get a second entry in the task bar when you open a second document. Office 97 was MDI, all documents were contained in one parent. So the corrected sentence would read: "It has been reported (although not by MS, to my knowledge) that Office 10 will go back to using a multiple document interface".
