Sounds like a network driver issue rather than a modem issue; do you have a complex AD hierarchy that could be stretching paths out over ~261 characters total length? That's the only thing I can think of for 'path too deep'; share unavailable would indicate that a target drive was unavailable (removable media drive, or a network device not on line, or the user failed to authenticate, or didn't have the necessary permissions in the target.

I've seen USB and PCI issues, but not with these symptoms.
