I haven't tried the one in the article, but I've done a lot of DCOM. Some things to check:

1) make sure you can create the object locally on the machine hosting the .exe
2) run RACMGR32, find your DCOM server, set 'ALLOW ALL REMOTE CREATES' on the client access tab & Make sure 'allow remote activation' is set from the permissions menu.
