It depends on the type of barcode reader that you use - if you get a wedge device, it hooks in between the PV and keyboard, and scanned barcodes are entered as if the content were typed in. No special software needed. The majority of barcode devices being sold for the PC platform are designed to operate either as a wedge device or as a serial device, and most serial port barcode readers comer with software to handle the interface.
