I think because if you bind a combo with longer strings to a field thats shorter, you get a blank (I don't remember if it was stored as blank, or it just showd that way), either way, you don't have to be that sneaky about.

Just select the Code and the Description together (that way you can incremental search on Code like he wanted and still diplay the description) plus the second column which is just the code, and set BoundColumn to 2.
