I completely agree with with you about having a UPS for each developers machine.
I also agree with the advantages of using a source control software.

But I know that it is not every developer in the worls that have UPSs on their machines.
I also know that this behaviour has changed from NT4 to Win2K, making it a lot more probable for a non-cautious developer to loose work under Win2K than under NT4.
