For anyone interested, the problem of multiple faxes from Outlook turns out to be 'by design', and is a problem between Outlook on Windows95/98 and Exchange on SBS, though one has to wonder about the designer(s). Microsoft Fax Service places a separate call for each attachent. This means that you get a separate fax for the body text and a single attachement, even if it is empty. Pretty dumb, we would never do that in Fox, would we.
With graphics involved, I doubt that trying to drop the contents of the attachment into the body text is really an option.
I had opted for a kind of dumb pool manager as an interface, so that there would only be one station handling faxes. Turns out to be a bigger benefit than I anticipated. Running the pool manager on the SBS server works just fine.
Now to test whether the Winfax SE which comes with Outlook 2000 suffers the same problem.
FWIW had a looooong discussion with MS support, who didn't give the answer, but were obviously inclined to think it had to be a VFP problem!
