I would also find out if he works for someone... if so, call his employer and complain. That's not professional and is totally uncalled for. If not, I would tell him that you did not appreciate it, and ask for him to have better judgement in the future.
It's really stupid on his part to knock anyone who is paying for him to teach - he would not get another engagement with my company if I heard something like that.
