I do alot of web page contruction, design maintenance etc. And by far the best editor for website is Allaire Homesite from
www.allaire.com. It has
excellent help files and a great editor(you still need to learn HTML but if you want to make a good site you can't be afraid of the script (Frontpage and other WYSYWIG editors really do a bad job at converting what you 'draw' on the screen into HTML.
As for reference material I suggest you check out the website
www.wdvl.com (Web Developers Virtual Library) It has tutorials, links, and reviews that go through and beyond beginner tutorials and get right into the different web languages core features.
