>>Are you working with SQL Server data or Fox Data? If you are working with Fox Data, of course Fox is going to be better. However, if you are working with SQL Server, Delphi should be fine. As for Powerbuilder, it has been long time since I worked with that product - and that was a very brief time. I think it was around 1992 and PB 3.0 had just come out.
Fox data on LAN and SQL Server data on WAN.
>>Another question - what apps are you writing as compared to what apps the PB/Delphi folks have to write?
We are all writing the same kind of stuff.
>>Why do you have these disparate tools?
My shop is primarily an Oracle shop. I came on board about 4 years ago to support some legacy FPW apps. Eventually, I rewrote all of them in VFP and have been doing nothing but new app development ever since. They are totally confused about VFP, but they let me have as much work as I can handle. I'm really amused by the fact that I'm sitting at home writing and supporting these things at a fraction of the cost of their Oracle systems. No support people, no DBAs, just me and my modem! BTW, SQL Server really shines on when it comes to remote administration. Its a telecomuters dream!
IMO, VFP is king!
