>I'm pretty new to C++ Builder, but I find it quite powerful and facinating. I would like to build an application that will accept input from the Com1 port so I can hook a time clock to it. I'm haveing a little trouble gettin started. Can anyone suggest a good tutor or "walk-through" type App. to teach me the basics? Is there a standard order to follow when developing applications? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

About the COM-port, there are some components around that make using it very easy. Look e.g. at the "Dejan Crnila Home Page" in the links section.

For examples or tutorials : some sites in the links section contain sample applications, e.g. "Just Another Web Site about C++ Builder" by Michel Leunen or
"Yet Another Code Site".

The easiest to begin with is to write applications like a clock (just a window), calculator (...now with user input), hyperterminal (...additional forms for settings), address book (...using single database table), ...

The Borland books that come with C++ builder have a walk-through tutorial also.

What kind of applications would you like to write ? Maybe there are some similar programs around you could use to learn from.
