John,

RE: The guy justifying VFP: Most of us were kind enough to answer his question without assuming that he didn't know how to ask the right question. Your style has proven to be one of deciding if someone asked the right question, deciding they didn't; ask your own question and then answer that one.

Emotionally involved: I don't marry my tools. Besides the sex is lousy. In contrast, you seem to be as emotionally involved with VB as any VFP'er is with VFP. Granted you back up what you say technically, but it comes across as emotional. I know you don't think it does and you probably feel you are above such things. God knows I did when I thought I knew everything. The good thing about me is that I have the ability to look beyond your thinly disguised snipes and baiting and try to gleam from your techinical knowledge. It just gets tough sometimes because you are just so damn argumentative. At first I thought it could be described as passionate, now I only think it is argumentative. My hope for you is that you will someday emotionally catch up to where you are intellectually.

>Mike...

>I am sorry you feel this way. Unfortunately, there are folks here who do not look at this issue in an objective manner that is required. I try to be that objective voice. It is like the guy who asked the question about justifying VFP to his superiors. Everybody is telling him about the virtures of Fox, the big apps like JFast, chunnel, etc, and the Fox Excellence Awards. Not once, until I did, ask the one important question of what type of app was being considered.
>
>Maybe Fox is the right tool, maybe it isn't. For sure, you cannot reliably answer the question until you know the context. Again, this place is filled with so much subjectivity and emotion.
>
>I stand by my statement about MS not caring about single and 2-tier apps. Heck, they are on record with this. To them, it is a dead market. At the very least, it is a market that will not grow. And as such, does not justify further investment. This is why VFP is in the pickle that it is in.
>
>Is this arrogant? I don't think so. I am sorry that you and others cannot look at this issue in a clear objective and unemotional manner. I should have learned this before. At some point, many here fall back on becoming emotionally involved with the app tool they use. Any slight against the tool is taken as an insult against the community. A pretty rediculous state of affairs.
>
>Yes, I may be arrogant. At least I am not in denial. I deal in the world of reality. Harsh as it is sometimes, at least you know where you stand....

>>Besides Mike, COBOL is DEAD too!!!! LOL! I wonder why Headhunters continually ring my phone off the hook for NEW projects! I used to like John's argumentative style. But it has gotten very old, very arrogant, very defensive and very tired. Keep it up young friend. Although I have never considered Bill Gates an enemy of the people, I also have never become what appears to be walking advertisement for VB either.
>>
>>>>Unless you have been asleep for the past 2 years, it is quite evident that MS does not care about single/2-tier apps.
>>>
>>>Last I checked I don't have to write apps the way MS tells me too or the way John Petersen thinks I should cause MS told him too.
>>>
>>>You need to get off alot of people backs about using FoxPro. The only thing I've heard out of you in the last couple months is "VFP is worthless: use VB" and of course the JVP standard "I think very highly of myself."
>>>
>>>You've made your point. Some people see it your way and started using VB (possibly leaveing Fox altogher), some decided they'd stay with VFP.
>>>
>>>Do you actually think repeating your message over and over will do any good?
