John, if this isn't a troll, it should be. And if it isn't, if I were you I admit it was. The contridictions, left me ROTF! Thanks for the laughs.

- "I would suggest letting it roll of your back." But then you instruct how to insult and add another flip comment!
- I get the Rodney, but you know as well as I, Rodney Rocks.
- "Words of advice you should heed." Learn it, Live it, Love it, JVP.

John, all joking aside, if you're going to be in Miami in two weeks, I'd like to meet with you and hear your side of the story.

I'll be the ugly guy in the Programmer's Exchange.

Thanks,

Dave

>George Goley at MEI used to do this sort of thing. MEI tought VB and Access as well as Fox. When an Access class was going on, George would stop by and talk to the class for 10 minutes. He would go on about how great Fox was and how Access was in many respects, inferior to Fox.

>There were many complaints. Folks did not think it was appropriate that one who worked at the company, an owner no less, is bashing a product that he is collecting money for providing training.
>
>In the end, people just sucked it up, learned what they were there to learn, and moved on.
>
>I would suggest letting it roll of your back. When he asked the question, your best response would have been:
>
>"Yes, they pay me, and they not only pay me to be in your class, they are paying the fee to your company for me to be in your class...."
>
>Here, you are not insulting the guy. You are making a statement of fact. You would have had his respect as you would have hit the point. Asking whether they pay ASP instructors really does not fly. For one, you stoop to the same level. And second, you open the door up to yet another flip comment: "Sure they do. ASP is a technology in use by the mainstream..." or something equally stupid.
>
>While what the guy said was not proper in the social context, he really did nothing wrong. Have you suffered any real damage as a result of what he said? The key is whether what he said/did was outrageous or extreme. I don't think it was. In all liklihood, he was making a joke, a bad one at that.
>
>Does the guy deserve to have some sanctions placed against him? Again, did you sustain substantial damages? I don't think so.
>
>My advice - let it slide, get over it, move on.
>
>Another sure fire way to get trapped is to go down the road of pitting your tool against his. This strategy never works. I have seen too many people go down in flames implementing this strategy.
>
>Get used to it. VFP is the Rodney Dangerfield of the programming world. VFP does not get respect. And, it will never get respect in the future. Take comfort in the fact that it works for you.
>
>Getting into verbal/flame wars with people over this issue will only frustrate you more. And, it is incredibily unproductive.

>>Sometimes you just have to laugh...
>>
>>I started a training class in ASP development this morning being given on site here at work. As a way to get started, the instructor asked everyone to state their current programming skills. When my turn came around, of course I mentioned that I was a Visual FoxPro developer. Before I could mention anything else the instructor said
>>"Do they actually pay you for that?"
>>Of course, everyone laughed (me being one of two VFPers in the room) thinking the instructor was making a joke. I thought he was making a joke (albeit a lame one) as well until I looked up and noticed he was very serious and was sincerely interested in the answer.
>>My reply was "Yes, they pay me. Do they actually pay ASP instructors?".
>>
>>I thought this was a perfect example the level of ignorance out there in regards to VFP (but I'm sure we've all been there).
>>
>>Guess the persecution will never end!
