Thank you both for your input.

I like the idea of generating RTF from vfp (we already miracles when producing html on the fly). Any hint on where I can find a decent description of the RTF file format.

If you can't find that, think about writing your own class. Especially if you're doing stuff that's consistently formatted, generating tables as RTF text should be fairly straight forward.
