Your first choice is what MSFT wants. They make much money on a VB/SQL Server combo than anything else.

I agree with you on the DBF platform really needed to tighted up. Security and data corruption needed to be priority number one when VFP was first released. I would also point out that just because security doesn't come out of the box of VFP, it can be added with encryption with out a lot of trouble.
