Hey John,

>Second, while a very eloquent and polite letter, Mr Luter in no way recants anything from the letter. For this, he has my respect. He merely clarifies what the intent was. FWIW, I thought the intent was fairly clear. They are a company who offers a specific service that deals with upgrading aging Fox apps with SQL-Server.

...and there is nothing wrong with that........

>Had I been the "guru" that had reviewed the letter, I certainly would have fore-warned the author about the multitude of whiners and complainers the VFP community is replete with.

I think the main complaint IMHO is that here is a letter with the Microspft Solutions Partner logo bashing a Microsoft tool; it's not an issue of "whiners and complainers". I think the company did a good targeted marketing, albeit by overstating potential problems. But then again, that's general marketing tactics in all businesses so...

>I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Mr. Luter was crafting this response. If it had been me, it would have taken every ounce of restraint to not go off about how whiny and hyper-sensitive folks are. To accuse this company of trying to put "hard-working Fox developers out of business" is completely off base.

I have mixed feelings about this.......in some respects, I agree.

>A statement to those listening:

>It is high time that many in this community get a reality grip.

Who's reality?

>Remember folks, you are NOT your developer tool. The next time you get tourqed up when somebody slights Fox, ask yourself why you get peeved. My advice is to deal with it in a constructive manner.

John, ask yourself why VFP developers would not get upset in a situation like this. It's an emotional issue, and you can't address it logically. When you do, the result is to piss off more people.

>Either ignore it or take responsibility for your career and do what is necessary to ween your dependency from Fox. Don't blame others for the situation you find yourself.

You seem to have an almost total contempt for the general VFP community, and I think that's grossly unfair. Good VFP developers can put the total solution together just as well as good developers in other languages. I'm starting to think we'd all be a lot happier if you would "ween" yourself from VFP and leave the rest of us the hell alone.

I don't know why you've been on the kick you have been lately, but IMHO you are a negative and destructive influence on a fragile, emotional community. You're not Moses; nobody is asking you to lead them to redemption. Do your law school thing, and all power to you with that. Meanwhile, shut the hell up. If you want to opt out of this community, do so. But leave the rest of us alone.
