Ouch, I did made the same in one of my applications! :)
Well, how I solved this problem without publics:
cNewFilter = "DTOC(aDate,1) == '20000328'"
SET FILTER TO &cNewFilter
You will need to make index(es) by expression DTOC(aDate,1) for better performance, but this is not critical - DTOC(...,1) - specially added for indexes :)
