"Theoretically" it is fairly easy to alter the speech language-
I assume you are doing something similar to us along the lines of
with thisform.oleagent
.Connected=.t.
.Characters.Load("Jeeves","skull.acs")
* Display the character
.Characters("Jeeves").Show()
.Characters("Jeeves").speak([Hello, My name is \Map="Jeeeeeves!,"="Jeeves"\ and I'm here to help you learn about \Map="Playto"="PLATO"\.])
.Characters("Jeeves").moveto(this.parent.left,this.parent.top)
.Characters("Jeeves").speak([If I start to annoy you, just Right-click me and Select \Map="Hide."="Hide"\ and I'll get out of your way.])
endwith
If so, you can add a
.Characters("Jeeves").LanguageID=
to alter the language. You are correct, it does sound a bit funny, though...

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
