Ed,
>I'd guess fewer than 15 people made it to my session on pointers in VFP. People voted with their feet.
On balance, many more have probably read the transcripts, as I have, over on the wiki.
>To VFP programmers, Windows is the red-headed stepchild; if it isn't built into VFP, it's a bug, or it should be in the wishlist and listed as a bug until then.
Not to this VFP programmer. But neither do I put knowing Windows internals extremely high on my list, since there are others who have already posted code to do many of the things I'd need. If I couldn't find what I needed, I might then dive in deeper -- but for now your excellent lecture notes have given me enough of an overview of the subject to find a starting place to dive in.
With the limited time for study that I have now, and an overloaded development schedule, I have to focus on the areas most relevant -- like cross-browser compatibility for web apps, nTier architecture, and XML. I consider myself a VFP programmer with an emphasis on Web apps, so I may not fit your usual description of WinApp developer, however.
>...You can write a better WinApp if you understand what Windows can do for your app, and when it gets in your way.
Good point.
