Thanks...what I'm trying to do is to create a cursor in which to display all data about a court case...with the most recently assigned AAG in a column, so that the user can sort on that column.

Ideally, I wanted some nice, neat, SQL to create a cursor of AAGs to incorporate into the rest of the data...other ways I can think of is to create the SQL w/an empty field, then SCAN and fill in the AAG (using some index as you suggested)...but w/so many records, that's too slow.

Oc, the method suggested by Bill works.
