Hi James..

This is bascially what I have been saying for a while now. And for sure, there are going to be bigger news. Rumor has it that all new SBT development will be done in VB. SBT was acquired by AccPac. I have no hard facts on this. However, I have heard this rumor from several reliable sources. I called SBT to see if they would confirm or deny. I basically got a "no comment". The same is true with AccountMate. I have heard that over the next year, VFP is being phased out in favor of VB. Again, I called them and received a "no comment" response.

If they don't deny, is it an admission? I am a pessimist, but not that much of one. Corporations at times, can be hard to predict. My sources are reliable. We will just have to wait and see when and if the shoe drops.

One has to look at the obvious. Big shops like these have large developer requirements. They don't have time to bring somebody in and teach them VFP. Think it is hard finding 1 or 2 really good VFP developers? How about if you need 10 or 20?It is not as though people are breaking the doors down trying to learn VFP.

Second, experienced VFP developers, the really good ones that is, are consulting. They make too much money for companies to consider as full-time salaries. Companies are faced with a dangerously low talent pool. This by itself is cause to start looking at other development tools. In the end, if it has to do with technology, it does so indirectly. The reasons for making the switch are very pragmatic.

As for not wanting to face the music; well, there are those in denial and there are those who accept reality. And on the extreme left are those that identify their very existence with VFP...< s >...

Here is an interesting question. Has anybody noticed that there were no excellence awards this year? Has anybody found out why? I have my theory....
