MS spends a lot of money on market research. They perform a lot of telephone and written surveys. They may not know specifically what Allan Williams is doing. However, they know what Joe Developer is doing. And, while it may not apply to your specific scenario, in the aggregate, they have an accurate picture.

In a blunter way, they really don't care about specifics, they care about the market as a whole. THeir concerns are more strategic, not tactical..
