I agree. Overall logical analysis and problem-solving skills are the foundation -- language is just an implementation decision.

Same here. That's why I don't worry about the future. Right now, there's enough work for doing web front-ends to FP and VFP apps to keep me busy for several years. And, if that begins to dry up, something else will take its place.
I think it's a safe bet to be learning Web Development, distributed architecture, and staying up-to-date on reading/experimenting with things like palms and cell-phone internet (WAP, etc).
